Kuan-Yu Chen High-Speed Long-Cavity Directly Modulated DFB Laser integrated with Semiconductor Optical Amplifier
Kuan-Yu Chen;Bo-Hong Chen;Rih-You Chen;Wei Lin;Yi-Jen Chiu

A high-speed directly modulated DFB Laser integrated with SOA has been demonstrated. A 370μm long cavity of waveguide was fabricated, leading to 6mW optical power with continue-wave operation and 3dB bandwidth of 35GHz. A 50Gb/s non-return to zero eye pattern modulation has been achieved.

Wen-Hao Chiang Beyond GHz Optical Frequency Up-converted Modulation of LEDs with Integrated Acousto-optic Transducer
Wen-Hao Chiang;Li-Chan Lai;Jian-Jang Huang

Traditional visible light communication (VLC) via light-emitting diodes (LEDs) employs the OOK (on-off keying) modulation scheme. Though optical frequency modulation has many advantages, it is hardly used for LED VLC due to the resistance-capacitance limit. By monolithically integrating a LED with an integrated digital transducer, we experimentally demonstrate the intermixing of gigahertz surface acoustic waves and electrical data signals in the LED cavity at room temperature. An optical transmitter was realized by in-situ frequency up-conversion of the data signals from a LED, which has the advantages of improving transmission performance by up-shifting the data spectrum away from low-frequency noise.

Wei-Chung Peng Experimental demonstration of 2x64 optical phase array with uniform emission and high PSLL
Wei-Chung Peng;Shin-Hsien Chung;Wei-Xun Chen;Tsung-Han Lee;San-Liang Lee

We designed and manufactured a 2x64 optical phased array with apodized sub-wavelength gratings to provide uniform emission, and developed phase error correction (PEC) algorithm to suppress the speckles in the far-field pattern (FFP) caused by the fabrication induced fluctuations. The measured FFP after PEC calibration shows a divergence angle of 0.15° along the array direction with a peak-to-sidelobe level (PSLL) greater than 11 dB.

Guan-Ting Lu Highly Efficient Harmonic Microwave Down-Conversion Using Semiconductor Lasers at Stable-Locking Dynamics
Guan-Ting Lu;Chin-Hao Tseng;Sheng-Kwang Hwang

A highly efficient harmonic microwave down-conversion scheme using semiconductor lasers at stable-locking dynamics is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The proposed scheme provides a conversion gain of more than 10 dB over a frequency range of 2.5 GHz without phase noise deterioration.

Tsun-Ting Tsai 130-m Non-Flickering White-Light Under-Sampled Phase Shift On-Off-Keying (UPSOOK) Visible Light Communication (VLC) Using Camera Receiver
Tsun-Ting Tsai;Yun-Han Chang;Chien-Hung Yeh;Chi-Wai Chow

We demonstrated a 130-m non-flickering under-sampled-phase-shift-on-off keying (UPSOOK) visible light communication (VLC) using camera receiver. Experiments at different transmission distances and ISO values are also performed.
